Same-sex unions and the Catholic Church

Every year, thousands of young men and women in the our Church suffer needlessly. Torn between their faith and their sexuality, they feel the guilt, shame and pain of rejection. Their faith, which should be their greatest source of comfort and strength in times of uncertainty, becomes the cause of their anguish.

More and more Catholics struggle to reconcile their own views on LGBT rights with official Church doctrine. They become disillusioned with a Church out of step with modern thinking. Claims of a compassionate Church capable of moral leadership begin to ring hollow as the wider public see us disavow our sisters and brothers in the LGBT community.

With your help, we can undertake more work to respectfully challenge out-dated thinking within the Church. By making a donation to the Wijngaards Institute you’ll help build a more tolerant Church, and spare the next generation of LGBT Catholics the anguish which so many people have felt before.

Our work is helping to reform our Church, and is also a source of solace for young Catholics struggling with their sexuality.

Every pound, dollar. euro given is a step closer to an inclusive Church we can be proud of.

We are an international organisation registered with charitable status in the UK, Europe and the USA. You can donate in GBP, EUR or USD and your gift is eligible for the standard tax-relief applicable in the UK, Europe and USA.

“I am a true blue Australian. Born in a traditional Catholic family. Discovered I am gay. Went through the journey of anguish and false shame that many of us have to go through. Found a loving partner to live with. Thank you for proving to me and to the world I’m not a freak.”
